How Web Video Can Support a Successful SEO Strategy (Part Two)

Posted on by Craig

Following on from Part One – where we looked at how video can benefit an SEO campaign – here we look at how a website video itself can be optimised for maximum optimisation reward.

Keyword-Heavy Meta Data

All of the Meta Data associated with a video can be customised to give your SEO a kick up the rear. Title Tags, Meta Descriptions and even a quick slice of text to accompany the video can include one or even two keywords.

Remember though, there’s a fine line between spammy and clever, so don’t push your luck!

Comment is Free

Allowing comments on your videos is a double-edged sword. Now these can generate an enormous amount of spam (the amount of recipes we get in our comments section is incredible. Not spam recipes I might add).

But if managed correctly comments can be of great benefit to an SEO campaign, and ensures a stream of fresh content which search engines love.

Transcription

As mentioned in Part One, a textual transcription offers the opportunity to sew a few keyword seeds. Then sit back and watch a giant SEO oak grow friends.

Embed Codes

These enable a viewer to share your vid on their own blog or social networking page. The amount of link ‘juice’ this creates is priceless, as we know how important it is to get content that originates from your site ‘spread’ elsewhere.

Video Sitemap

Creating an XML sitemap helps Google to ‘discover’ your content. This is fairly straightforward, and can be submitted via Google’s Webmaster Tools – simply include a title, description and URL’s for the play page, the thumbnail and for the raw file location. And hey presto! A video sitemap is all yours.

So there you have it, a comprehensive guide on how to maximise the SEO benefit of web video to your company. If you have any further thoughts, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment.
