It’s that time of year again folks – where industry experts make their predictions as to what will be big in 2011. Here at the Web Video Store we thought we’d shamelessly jump on the bandwagon and give our own rundown of what we think will shape the Website Video world in the next 12 months.

Video on the Move

As the capabilities of smartphones and gadgets continue to develop, so too will the possibilities for the web on these devices. As a consequence of this, Website Video will become far more readily viewed online.

As HTML5 gets a firm grip on web technologies, the ability to view video on your iPad, iPhone and other innovations will be prevalent – with smoother and faster playback.

Many of our clients already ask us if we can code their videos so that they are compatible with said devices, and this is likely to be even more widespread in 2011.

Video SEO

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is, in simple terms, a range of techniques used to promote a website, with the aim of ranking as high as possible in Google, Yahoo etc.

Whilst Video SEO is still in its infancy, there is a real buzz about it developing among industry heavyweights. So, whilst this won’t affect the actual content or style of a Website Video, the way these are promoted will.

Expect big things of video SEO in the next year.

Video Email Marketing

Marketers across the globe are fully aware of the power of email marketing, as a tool to promote products and services and redirect traffic to another location, i.e. the target website.

Adding video content to your email campaign is clearly going to have a significant impact upon us, far fewer people are going to just click the ‘Delete’ button for instance, and many will be tempted to click through – should the video content interest them that is.

Internet TV

The convergence of eCommerce websites and video is a natural and exciting one. Dynamic content is the best way of showcasing the features of a product, and demonstrating it in action.

So there you have it, our quick guide to what to look out for in 2011. As with all predictions, we may ultimately end up with egg on our face, the web is ever changing after all. But we’re pretty confident that these are all factors you should be considering when devising your Website Video strategy for the year ahead.
